Point Salines International Airport is just five minutes from St. George's. There are taxis and car rental agencies at the airport. All taxi fares are fixed by the Grenada Board of Tourism and are quoted in US dollars.
To obtain a local driving permit, you'll need a valid driver's license. Permits are available at most car rental firms and cost about US$12. There are approximately 650 miles of paved roads; owing to its British heritage, driving in Grenada is on the LEFT. There are a number of car rental agencies and the average cost is US$62/day with tax.
The best and cheapest way to get around Grenada is the public mini buses. A great way to meet the friendly islanders, the buses stop wherever needed: only St. George's and its suburbs have official bus stops. There's also a central bus station in St. George's, where you can hop on buses to other parts of the island. The longest and most expensive ride is to Sauteurs on the northern coast, which will set you back a whopping US$1.88. The clearly-marked buses travel regularly on weekdays from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm, with higher after-hours rates. There's also a regular bus service from Grand Anse beach to St. George's. The drive takes about 5 minutes and only costs US$.50.
When there's a cruise ship in the harbor, Grenada's colorful water taxis spring into action. They're a fast if slightly damp way to get from St. George's to Grand Anse Beach and back. The cost for two people is about US$3.75. All taxis are restricted to a section of the beach near the vendors' market and are licensed by the port authority.
