Carriacou

 Grenada's Sister Island of Carriacoue

When you're on the Isle of Spice, don't miss the opportunity to visit Carriacou, with its easily accessible and pristine reefs. Located 16 miles northeast of Grenada, Carricaou's main town is Hillsborough, with a populaton of about 6,000. Dryer than Grenada, Carriacou's rolling hills are covered in cactus and scrubland, with excellent diving opportunities, including a six mile barrier reef, on the eastern end of the island. The Carriacou Museum in Hillsborough has an impressive collection of Amerindian artifacts and mementoes dating back to occupation by the French and British.

An easy and entertaining way to get to Carriacou is via the Osprey Ferry, a high-speed catamaran that leaves from the Carenage in St. Georges. The ride along the west coast on your way to Carriacou is terrific. The trip usually takes about 90 minutes and costs about US $52 round trip.

Carriacou has six restaurants, including West Indian, French, Creole, International and Caribbean cuisine.

As for nightlife, several bars and most hotels provide entertainment, including Steel Band Music. Other nighttime offerings include folk music, drama, and cultural performances.
